HOW TO MAKE THE VESPER
The Vesper, also known as the Vesper Martini, was made famous by James Bond. The cocktail best known for being ordered “shaken not stirred” was invented by none other than Bond author Ian Fleming. The Vesper first appeared in his book “Casino Royale,” which was published in 1953 and gets its name from fictional double agent Vesper Lynd. When Bond orders the Vesper, it comes with strict instructions that must be followed by any who make it: “Three measures of Gordon’s, one of vodka, half a measure of Kina Lillet. Shake it very well until it’s ice-cold, then add a large thin slice of lemon peel. Got it?” While some might claim that shaking will “bruise the gin” or have an adverse effect on the drink, when making a Vesper, it’s best to follow the original instructions.
Add all the ingredients into a mixing glass with ice and stir.
Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Twist a slice of lemon peel over the drink, rub along the rim of the glass, and drop it in.
